About Bruce
Bruce Wu, Ph.D., J.D.
As an Executive Coach, Bruce Wu combines a passion for nurturing healthy personal growth with his innovative leadership experience managing Legal, Business Development, and People/HR departments at large and small companies.
Bruce developed an interest in coaching after having had the pleasure of mentoring employees while serving as a C-suite executive. He has witnessed first-hand the result of employees feeling empowered and gaining a sense of belonging in the workplace.
Bruce is passionate about helping people grow holistically in spite of a high-pressure working environment. He is by training an engineer, having received a Masters' and a Ph.D. in two different fields from MIT. After graduating from Georgetown Law and finding success in law firms, as an in-house attorney, and eventually as a Chief Legal Officer, Bruce expanded his practice to encompass Human Resource leadership and began developing an approach that values and prioritizes the human beings behind the titles, both in the executive suite and among the ranks of employees.
Bruce considers himself a learner as well as a teacher, having taught MBA students as an adjunct professor for multiple years. He approaches coaching his clients from a growth mindset.
A frequent speaker, Bruce has shared his insights and strategies at numerous conferences, including Consero, Global IP Exchange, Patent Administrative Law, and IP Counsel Cafe. He has received an Exceptional Leadership Award from Consero; has been named an Asian Leader Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal and an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property; and has been recognized as one of the world's leading IP strategists by Managing IP's IAM300.
Aligning one's career growth with one's values has been Bruce's North Star in approaching career development. If you are exploring your next career or role, be it as a general counsel, a partner at a law firm, or a company executive, Bruce would be glad to work with you to find and develop your skills and passions in a way that allows you to stay true to who you are, so that your growth can feel authentic.
Harnessing the power of a team's diversity is particularly important to Bruce's practice. Bruce himself reflects a wide range of identities: a student of both the sciences and the humanities; a speaker of five languages; a citizen of Taiwan, Canada, and the U.S.; and a proud dad of two multiracial children, alongside his Jewish husband. Core to Bruce's approach is turning diversity into a strength rather than letting it become a roadblock.
